Author BIO

Sam Summers is an author, coach and mother of two. Her debut middle grade novel, The Lost Defenders, draws on her favourite childhood stories of found family, adventure, and the magic hidden in ordinary places.

Before becoming an author, Sam spent many years working in corporate marketing and now runs a coaching business supporting mothers returning to work after maternity leave. Originally from London, she now lives in Sydney with her family, a chaotic dog, and an extremely unimpressed cat.

And for the readers
(especially curious ones)...

Hi 👋

I'm Sam. When I was a kid, I loved books more than almost anything. Especially stories about secret worlds, strange creatures, and kids who felt a bit different.

I didn’t always feel like I fitted in, and books helped me feel less alone. They made the world feel bigger, braver, and more possible.

Watching my son race through books reminded me of that feeling, and it made me want to write the kind of story I would have loved at that age.

That’s how The Lost Defenders began.

I write stories about friendship, bravery, and finding your people – even when things get scary or weird. And if you’re the kind of reader who wonders what might be hiding just beyond the ordinary world… you’re very welcome here.

Fun Facts...

  1. I’m afraid of the dark… which is probably why I love writing spooky stories.

  2. I used to tell ghost stories to my younger cousins using only a torch and my best scary voice.

  3. Those cousins are all grown up now... and they tell the same ghost stories to their own kids.

  4. If a story has a secret room, a hidden door, or a mysterious map, I’m in.

  5. I wasn’t the best at English at school, but I wanted to be a writer, so I never gave up.
